BULGARIA RECEIVES EUR 27 MILLION FROM THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR MODERNIZATION OF ITS GAS TRANSMISSION NETWORK

The Coordinating Committee to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) decided on 23 January 2019 to grant more than EUR 27 million under a project for the rehabilitation, modernization and expansion of the Bulgarian gas transmission network. The signing of a Grant Agreement between Bulgartransgaz EAD, as a Beneficiary and the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency  (INEA) is to be signed following a decision of the European Commission.

The project envisages the implementation of construction works, procurement of materials and equipment for the replacement (rehabilitation) of two sections of the Northern semi-ring of the existing gas transmission network with a total length of about 81 km. These activities are part of the second phase of project “Rehabilitation, modernization and expansion of the Bulgarian gas transmission system”, included in the PCI List of the European Commission. Due to its strategic importance, it was determined in 2015 as one of the top seven priority projects of the gas connectivity initiative in the Central and South East Europe Gas Connectivity (CESEC) as well. More information is available here.

The project “Rehabilitation, modernization and expansion of the Bulgarian gas transmission system” is also part of the concept for the Balkan Gas Hub. The improvement of the technical parameters of the network in our country will also contribute to the development of the gas infrastructure in the region.
