Taking into account the European policies and priorities for decarbonisation, Bulgartransgaz EAD is actively working to develop its infrastructure in accordance with the plans for large-scale development and entry of hydrogen into the energy mix in the EU. Hydrogen, as an energy carrier with zero emissions, is of key importance in the European Union's plans for a phased transformation of the energy sector and the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The REPowerEU Plan of the European Commission provides for a significant consumption of renewable hydrogen by 2030, equal to 20 million tonnes, with a target of 10 million tonnes of domestic production and 10 million tonnes of imports.
Bulgartransgaz plans projects in the field of hydrogen, including for the construction of infrastructure for the transmission of pure hydrogen and the adaptation of the existing gas infrastructure for the transmission of hydrogen-gas mixtures with a hydrogen content of up to 10%. The company is also an active participant in the initiatives European Clean Hydrogen Alliance and European Hydrogen Backbone.
In this regard, Bulgartransgaz EAD launches a non-binding market demand assessment survey for hydrogen transmission capacity. The company informs all current and potential market participants (producers, shippers and consumers) of the opportunity to submit their non-binding demand indications for hydrogen transmission capacity.
The results of the study will show the interest of market participants in the potential use of hydrogen as part of the future energy mix. The non-binding survey and its coordination with the neighbouring operators will facilitate the timely planning of the required infrastructure.
The survey will identify the expected demand for hydrogen transmission capacity, the potential production sites in Bulgaria and the exit points to end users. The results will also contribute to the timely planning and construction of the necessary infrastructure for the transmission of hydrogen to and through Bulgaria.
Information must be submitted by 15 September 2023.
After processing the received non-binding requests from market participants, the results will be presented in the form of aggregated data.
The completed and signed Аpplication forms for the submission of non-binding hydrogen transmission capacity requests shall be sent to: info@bulgartransgaz.bg.
