Chiren Underground Gas Storage is already filled to 90.24% of the technical storage capacity.

Thus, for a second consecutive year, the obligation to fill 90% of the storage capacity in the European Union countries no later than 1 November of each year, set in the European Regulation 2017/1938 on measures to safeguard security of gas supply, has been achieved in advance.

Chiren UGS’s injection season continues until 31 October 2024, and based on the capacities booked, Bulgartransgaz EAD expects additional natural gas quantities to be injected in this period.

At present, a total of 12 companies - 7 Bulgarian and 5 international - store natural gas in Chiren UGS.

All this confirms the importance of Bulgaria's only gas storage facility for ensuring energy security of both Bulgaria and the countries of the Southeast European region.

The level of filling of Chiren UGS and the preparatory measures envisaged for the autumn-winter period guarantee the readiness and security of natural gas supply for the upcoming heating season.
