Bulgartransgaz EAD and the gas transmission system operators DESFA (Greece), FGSZ (Hungary), Gas TSO of Ukraine (Ukraine), ICGB AD (Bulgaria and Greece), Nomagas (North Macedonia), PLINACRO (Croatia), PLINOVODI (Slovenia), Transgaz (Romania) and Vestmoldtransgaz (Moldova) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on harmonization of gas quality requirements. The document was signed in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, within the framework of a meeting of the Ministers of Central and South-Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity (CESEC) Initiative. The Bulgarian gas transmission operator is among the initiators of the proposal on harmonization of gas quality requirements at interconnection points in the CESEC countries.
The introduction of harmonized requirements will improve integration, liquidity and competition of the markets in the Central and South-Eastern Europe region and will help achieve the objectives of the countries to diversify and secure gas supplies from various reliable sources, including LNG. The harmonization of gas quality requirements in the region is in synergy with the plans of gas transmission infrastructure expansion and with the projects that are part of the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative.
Signing of the memorandum is a step forward in gas operators' ambition to further improve the conditions for unrestrained cross-border natural gas transmission.
